State legion tournament to start Saturday at Kirsch-Rooney _lowres

The schedule for the American Legion State Tournament was released Tuesday morning with five of the eight teams hailing from the New Orleans area.

The tournament, which will be played at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, begins Saturday and concludes July 22.

The field includes area teams Townsend Homes (St. Charles), the River Ridge Patriots (John Curtis), Refuel (Shaw), Peake BMW (Brother Martin) and Retif Oil (Jesuit) along with Gauthier and Amedee (Ascension Parish), the Delhomme Drillers (Acadiana) and the Crowley Millers (Crowley).

Here’s a look at the schedule:

Saturday

(G1) 9 a.m.: Gauthier & Amedee vs. Townsend Homes

(G2) 35 minutes after G1: River Ridge Patriots vs. Delhomme Drillers

(G3) 3:30 p.m.: Refuel vs. Peake BMW

(G4) 35 minutes after G3: Retif Oil vs. Crowley

Sunday

(G5) 9 a.m.: Loser G1 vs. Loser G3

(G6) 35 minutes after G5: Loser Game 2 vs. Loser G4

(G7) 3:30: Winner G1 vs. Winner G3

(G8) 35 minutes after G7: Winner G2 vs. Winner G4

Monday

(G9) 1 p.m.: Winner G6 vs. Loser G7

(G10) 35 minutes after G9: Winner G5 vs. Loser G8

(G11) 7:30 p.m.: Winner G7 vs. Winner G8

Tuesday

*(G12) 4 p.m.: Winner G10 vs. Winner G11

*(G13) 35 minutes after G12: Winner G9 vs. Loser G11

Wednesday

(G14) 4 p.m.: Winner G12 vs. Winner G13

(G15): 7 p.m. - This game will be needed if Winner of Game 11 loses Game 13 or if winner of Game 13 wins Game 14

Notes: Pairings for Games 12 and 13 will not match previous opponents against each other unless absolutely necessary. ... If three teams remain after game 13, the winner of Game 11 automatically draws the bye in Game 14.

Williams named head of LHSCA

Terence Williams was appointed Director of the Louisiana High School Coaches Association.

Williams most recently served as head coach and athletic director at Redemptorist High School from 2013-2015. Before that, Williams served as a teacher/coach/athletic director at Donaldsonville, Leesville, University, Jackson and Christian Life.

Williams has served on the LHSAA’s executive committee since 2012 and the LHSCA’s executive council since 2010. He also serves on the Louisiana Football Coaches Association (LFCA) board as well as the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
