Derrius Guice

Catholic RB

The numbers: Guice totaled 204 yards and four touchdowns, including 134 rushing yards in a Week 1 win over Parkview Baptist. He scored on runs of 51 and 56 yards to start the game and had 105 after just three carries.

What they mean: The LSU commitment reminded all of us why he has been a big-play threat for the past two years. And it’s not just about the speed, Guice bounced off multiple tacklers and ran through others. He also catches the ball well.

Coach Dale Weiner says: “He’s unique ... he’s a special player. The thing about a guy like that — and we’ve been blessed to have a few through the years — is there was nothing there a couple of times and he just made a play.”

Lindsay Flory

The numbers: Flory made the all-tournament team at the South Louisiana Volleyball Invitational. She compiled a team-high 64 kills and an impressive .349 hitting percentage along with team-highs of 61 assists and 12 service aces.

What they mean: At 5-foot-11, Flory has height to go along with the skills to play any position on the court. Last week’s numbers help establish Flory as one of Louisiana’s most versatile players.

Coach Bonita Johnson says: “Lindsay stepped up ... really the whole team did. She made adjustments on her attacks, set the ball from the back row and also was a threat to attack from here. She was solid all round.”
