Class 5A/4A

1, Scotlandville (30-2): The Hornets of District 4-5A were impressive in their regular-season finale and have won 12 straight. They are primed for a run at another state championship.

2, McKinley (24-7): The District 5-5A champions Panthers made believers along the way and have won 12 out of 13.

3, East Ascension (27-6): EAHS finished as the runner-up to McKinley in 5-5A but should be dangerous in the playoffs.

4, Plaquemine (22-6): Forget about those two late losses in District 6-4A and look for the Green Devils to regroup in the playoffs.

5, Denham Springs (17-13): As this 4-5A team got healthy, it got better. Intriguing first-round matchup with East Ascension looms.

On the outside looking in: Walker (22-9), Catholic (19-11), Zachary (19-11), St. Amant (19-14).

Class 3A and below

1, Madison Prep (29-5) and University (26-4): Class 2A MPA and 3A U-High surprised no one by running the table in their districts. The route to another championship for each will be challenging and fun to watch.

3, Dunham (28-5): Winning the 8-2A playoff gives the Tigers a slight edge over two teams, district rival Episcopal and 1A Southern Lab.

4, Episcopal (28-6): Yet another solid year for the 2A Knights, who always seem to defy the odds.

5, Southern Lab (22-8): The talented Kittens are a third seed and will be out to prove their mettle in the 1A playoffs.

On the outside looking in: Christian Life (23-7), Brusly (20-8), Albany (20-11), Glen Oaks (19-11), White Castle (19-11), Port Allen (18-11).
