A 19-year-old man was found shot in the arm outside Yenni Stadium on Friday night after a football game between East Jefferson and Bonnabel high schools.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato said the victim, whose name he did not have, was transported to University Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

“The guy who was shot was very uncooperative with us,” Fortunato said. “We don’t known who shot him or anything. He didn’t want to say anything.”

Fortunato said there were a number of incidents during the game that resulted in several people being taken from the stadium.

Near the end of the game — at about 9:34 p.m., Fortunato said — an officer working detail at the game heard a gunshot and saw several people running down Phlox Street, on which East Jefferson High and the stadium are located. That’s where the victim was found.

“Moments later, a number of shots rang out,” Fortunato said.

Officers didn’t find anyone else injured, but there were a number of spent shell casings, he said, in the 400 and 500 blocks of Phlox, near crossing streets Temple and Calumet.

“As a result, we’ve now located three, maybe five firearms that were in the area, and we have three individuals in custody right now,” Fortunato said.

He said he did not know whether the firearms confiscated were from individuals who had attended the game.
