The Baton Rouge area high school track and field regular season concludes Friday with three meets.
Catholic High’s Grizzly Relays starts at 2 p.m. and will feature 10 teams. Port Allen’s Westside Relays begin at 3:30 p.m. and is scheduled to have six teams. Meanwhile, Woodlawn Panther Relays 4 starts at 3:15 p.m. and has 10 teams.
GRIZZLY RELAYS: Field events start at 2 p.m. and track events at 4 p.m. The host Bears (boys) and Baton Rouge High (girls) are the top-ranked teams in the Louisiana Track and Field Coaches Association polls.
Others set to compete include Broadmoor, Episcopal, Redemptorist, St. Joseph’s Academy, St. Michael, Scotlandville, Southern Lab and University.
“I think it’s going to be competitive in just about every event,” Catholic coach Pete Boudreaux said. “You’ve got a couple of teams, like Scotlandville, that have improved a lot during the season. There are some good teams and individuals.”
PANTHER RELAYS 4: Woodlawn is set to host Istrouma, McKinley, Tara, Denham Springs, Central, Livonia, Runnels and Madison Prep for its meet that begins at 3:15 p.m. with field events. Running events are set for 5:30 p.m.
“A lot of schools come looking for meets at this time of the year,” Woodlawn coach Jimmy Lieux said. “They’re trying to get one more in before the district meets next week. We should see some good performances.”
WESTSIDE RELAYS: Field events start at 3:30 p.m. and running events follow at 5 p.m. Teams entered include host PAHS, Glen Oaks, Family Christian, Ascension Catholic, Brusly, and Northeast.
“It should be a good meet,” PAHS coach Leonard Parker said. “On the girls side, Northeast, Glen Oaks and Port Allen are all strong. It should be us and Brusly.
