MONROE — Parkview Baptist’s Chris Anders rolled through the Division III boys singles competition at Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s State Tennis tournament. Anders has dropped just one game through two rounds and will face Notre Dame’s Kody Anderson in the quarterfinals.

Episcopal’s Ben White defeated Notre Dame’s Jordan Daigle in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the second round where he will face off against St. Louis’ Stone Sikich.

On the girl’s side, University’s Billy Rodman advanced to the Division III quarterfinals Thursday, defeating Rayville’s Jaine Hable and Jennings’ Gabrielle Juneau.

In Division IV girls action, Ascension Christian’s defending state champion Kennon Johnson faces off against Ouchita Christian’s Haley Bollinger in the quarterfinals. Neither has lost a game in the tournament. Ascension Christian’s Landon Walker advanced to the Division IV boys quarterfinals.


Notre Dame finished at 171 at the LHSAA’s Division II, Region I girls golf tournament held Thursday.

Holy Savior Menard placed second at 194.

Led by St. Joseph’s low score of 176, a trio of area teams topped the Division I, Region I tournament, along with Zachary (183) and St. Michael the Archangel (197) at Alexandria Golf and Country Club.

Menard’s Mattison Bates recorded the day’s top round of 84 in the Division II tourney. Notre Dame’s Cassidy Goff (89) and Emily Lucas (98) were next.

St. Joseph’s Jessica Varner, Neville’s Aofie O’Donouah and St. Louis’ Olivia Hansen each shot 83 to lead Division I. Zachary’s Paige Johnson (88) and Teurling’s Hillary Washington (88) were next.


EDNA KARR 5, PLAQUEMINE 4: In New Orleans, 10th-seeded Karr won its first postseason baseball game in school history when sophomore Tyree Thompson belted a walk-off RBI single to score Jarid Montgomery to beat No. 23 Plaquemine in a Class 4A bidistrict playoff game.

Thompson (11-0) also struck out 10 and gave up seven hit while allowing his first runs of the season.

Karr’s Montgomery finished with two hits and an RBI. D’Monte Carter also had a pair of hits.

Plaquemine’s Joe Keller had three hits and two RBIs.

ASCENSION CATHOLIC 7, MERRYVILLE 6: No. 12 Ascension Catholic held off No. 21 Merryville in a Class 1A bidistrict game at Lala Regira Field in Donaldsonville.

Ascension Catholic (18-12) responded with a game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Falcon Mire (2-for-4, 3 RBIs), Grant Montero (2-for-3) and Ross Barbier (2-for-4, RBI) were the offensive leaders for Ascension Catholic. D.J. Latino (6-2) got the win.

ST. JOHN 4, ST. MARTIN’S 3: No. 4 St. John broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat No. 29 St. Martin’s Episcopal 4-3 in a bidistrict Class 1A playoff game in Plaquemine.

Brandon Noel (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Jacob Maranto (2-for-3) and Gavin Landry (1-for-4, RBI) were the offensive leaders for St. John. Brandon Noel (8-1) got the win.

BRUSLY 10, PATTERSON 0: Sixth-seeded Brusly (23-8) exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning and totaled 12 hits. Luke LeBlanc (3-for-4, 2 RBIs), Bo Witty (2-for-2, RBI) and Kwanstan Adkins (2-for-4) led the way for the Panthers. Luke LeBlanc (8-2) got the win.

SACRED HEART 14, WEST ST. JOHN 1: No. 9 seeded Sacred Heart banged out 10 hits in a bidistrict Class 1A playoff game. Sacred Heart (20-8) compiled seven-run innings in the second and fourth to wrap the game up in five innings. Ellis Parrot (2-for-2, RBI), Andy LeFleur (2-for-3, RBI) and Garick Fontenot (2-for-2 RBI) led Sacred Heart at the plate. Phillip Vidrine (7-2) picked up the win.

CHEF 13, GOOD SAMARITAN 3: Christian High Educators Fellowship blew the game wide open with a seven-run fourth inning. Trenton Kinchen (1-for-3, 3 RBIs), Clay Cornelius (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Joseph Landry (1-for-2, 2 RBIs) and Steve Haley (2-for-4, RBI) led the way offensively for CHEF. Noah Whirley (5-1) picked up the win.
