A series of district cross country meets were held at Audubon Park on Wednesday.
Michael Brown finished with the fastest time and helped Newman win the boys District 9-2A title.
“It feels incredible,” Brown said. “Last year, came in third overall, so I’m pretty happy I improved over last year,” said Brown who finished with a time of 16 minutes, 42 seconds.
St. Martin’s boys captured the District 8-1A championship. Antonio Imborrone led the Saints by finishing first with a time of 16:50 and was one of five St. Martin’s runners to place in the top 10.
Riverdale took home the District 9-4A title, edging Ben Franklin by four points. Devon Quitana posted a time of 18:44 to lead the way for Riverdale.
Girls cross country
Ursuline won the 9-4A girls championship, locking up seven of the top 10 spots. Nadia Haik led Ursuline with a time of 20:46 and a second-place finish. Ben Franklin’s Paige Fatland finished first at 19:48.
“It was a good race,” Fatland said. “I’m really proud of everyone that ran it. It’s really good for them.”
Country Day won the 9-2A girls championship, finishing 17 points ahead of runner-up Newman.
Elise Lafleur’s first place (21:28) helped St. Martin’s win the 8-1A title. The Saints beat second-place Houma Christian by 21 points. Covenant Christian placed third.
