LAKE CHARLES – Top-seeded Madison Prep got a measure of revenge with a 47-32 victory over No. 4 Metairie Park Country Day in a Class 1A semifinal game that opened Wednesday’s action at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Boys Top 28 tournament.
The Chargers lost to Country Day in the 1A final a year ago. Though Country Day succeeded in slowing the pace, the Madison Prep defense often made it tough for the Cajuns to get open looks to score.
Brandon Sampson and Joshua LeBlanc each had 13 points for Madison Prep. Christion Thompson added 11. Michael Corchiani had 13 for Country Day, while J.C. Younger had 11.
Country Day (22-8 had won the last two 1A state titles and beat Madison Prep a year ago for the title. Madison (34-1) advances to play the Lafayette Christian-Arcadia winner in the 1A final set for 2 p.m.
Saturday at Burton Coliseum. MPA was the Class B state champion in 2013 before moving to 1A last season.
