For the sixth straight year, Hackberry High School hoisted the Class C softball title in Sulphur. A couple of weeks later, Claiborne Christian claimed the Class C baseball crown.

So it comes as no surprise that the Mustangs and Crusaders landed numerous players on the Class C all-state softball and baseball teams, as voted on by a panel of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Hackberry senior Brianne Beard and Claiborne Christian senior Griffith Olinde were chosen as the Outstanding Players for softball and baseball, respectively, while Plainview’s Elliott West and Simpson’s Robbie Bainer were honored as Coach of the Year.

Beard, who was the Class C Player of the Year in 2015, had another solid season for the Lady Mustangs, notching a .410 batting average. Olinde sported a .500 batting average as he guided the Crusaders to the championship.

West, in his third year at the helm of the Hornets softball program, led his team to a 17-9 record and first appearance in the Class C finals. Bainer coached Simpson to the Class C semifinals, where it led for most of the game before falling to Downsville.
