Newman’s season came to end Tuesday with a 7-5 loss to host Kinder in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs.

The Greenies, who were the No. 13 seed, finished the season 17-8.

Newman put together a big second inning, scoring five runs to take a 5-2 lead.

Alex Abrams delivered the big hit in the inning for the Greenies with a three-run single.

The 5-2 lead stood until the fifth inning Kinder tied it in the fifth, taking advantage of a pair of Newman errors, then took the lead in the sixth.

Kinder, the No. 4 seed, advances to the quarterfinals to play No. 5 St. Thomas Aquinas.

St. Thomas Aquinas beat Springfield 11-4 on Tuesday.

Four local teams will play Wednesday in second-round action. In Class 3A, St. Charles hosts Notre Dame.

In 2A, Northlake Christian travels to play Dunham.

In 1A, Crescent City will play Sacred Heart at Mike Miley Stadium and St. Martin’s will play at Covenant Christian.

Class 4A Franklinton and Class 5A Brother Martin host best-of-three series starting Friday.
