Mother Nature was the big winner in the second round of the LHSAA girls basketball playoffs on Monday.

Five of the eight games involving New Orleans area teams were postponed because of inclement weather in north Louisiana that affected traveling.

Warren Easton, Cabrini, Edna Karr, Salmen and West St. John all had their games postponed.

Top-ranked Warren Easton was scheduled to travel to No. 17 Wossman, but that game will be played Wednesday.

No. 3 Karr was scheduled to travel to No. 19 Huntington, but that game will be played Wednesday.

In Class 5A, No. 12 Cabrini’s game against Peabody was postponed. The game could be played Tuesday, Cabrini coach Nancy Walsh said but no date had been set as of late Monday.

No. 2 Salmen, which was scheduled to host No. 15 Loyola Prep, will likely play its game Wednesday.

In Class 1A, No. 3 West St. John’s game against No. 14 Grand Lake was rescheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

In one of the few games played Monday night, No. 6 Pine defeated No. 11 Riverside 59-54 in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs.

The Raiders advance to the quarterfinals to play the winner of Monday’s game between St. Thomas Aquinas and Episcopal.
