It all comes down to one final day. And perhaps just one final game for the Silliman Institute baseball team.

The Wildcats (22-7) host Oak Hill Academy (16-8) in the second game of a best-of-three games series to decide the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools overall Class 2A title. Game time is 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Clinton-based Silliman.

One more win would wrap up the title for Silliman. A third game, if needed, would follow the 4:30 p.m. contest. Silliman claimed a 1-0 lead in the series with a 4-1 victory over Oak Hill on Tuesday afternoon in West Point, Mississippi.

Even though his team relieved some pressure with that Game 1 win, Silliman coach John Paul Beauchamp said the message to his team after Wednesday’s practice was summed up in one word, “Relax.”

“I don’t think we hit as well as we’re capable of, especially at the top of the order,” Beauchamp said. “I think we just need to relax and play. Obviously, we’d prefer to win it in one game. But (the Wildcats) know we can’t take anything for granted.”

Jordan Talley tossed a three-hitter for the Wildcats in Tuesday’s win. Darian Tunstall’s two-RBI single helped power the Silliman offense.

Tunstall (8-2) has a 1.40 ERA and could get the Thursday start.

Mason McKnight (7-1, 2.14 ERA) offers yet another option for the Wildcats of fourth-year coach Beauchamp.

Tunstall also is the top hitter with a .422 average and has 29 RBIs. Talley has .395 batting average.
