LAKE CHARLES (AP) — After three consecutive state runner-up finishes, No. 2 Lacassine defeated No. 4 Stanley 54-43 to capture the 2015 Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA Class B State Championship Friday night in Lake Charles.

Capturing their first state championship since 1981, Lacassine (28-5) was led by Madyson Brasseaux who had 17 points, 16 rebound and five steals. Haley Cooley also added 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Cardinals capped off an impressive season which also saw them defeat 8-time defending state champion Fairview in the state semifinals.

After falling behind 24-16 at the half, the Cardinals hit 8 of 11 shots (72.7) and made four three-pointers en route to outscoring Stanley 23-10 in the quarter.

Stanley got as close as 42-41 in the fourth quarter, but would never take the lead in the final eight minutes.

Playing in the school’s first state championship game, Stanley (31-6) was led by Michee Alexander’s game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds with six blocks and four steals.
