It was an East sweep at the Louisiana High School Coaches Association’s girls soccer all-star game played Saturday at Pan American Stadium.

The East girls squad claimed an 8-0 victory over the West in the first game. Three first-half goals were enough to give the East a 3-2 win over the West in the boys game.

University High’s Melissa Ramsey and Baton Rouge High’s Sheila Achee were assistant coaches for the East girls squad.

St. Joseph’s Academy’s Brady Moran, Baton Rouge High’s Madeline Bourgeois, Dutchtown’s Molly Litten and East Ascension’s Theresa Bernal were part of the East girls squad.

St. Michael’s Paul Fletcher and Chris Stewart of Runnels were assistant coaches for the East boys team. The East squad included Catholic??s Parker Caufield and Joshua Campbell, Zachary Boothe and Zachary Kimball of Denham Springs, University’s Ben Smith and Thomas Kobertz along with the St. Michael trio of Mitchell Williams, Alex Silva and AJ Fletcher.

Boys Metro soccer

The meeting to select All-Metro boys soccer team is set for 7 p.m. Monday at the BR Soccer office located Lobdell.

All coaches are encouraged to attend and vote. Nominations must be submitted to Rudy Valenciano via email at rvalenci21@gmail.com by Sunday.

Fletcher a finalist

St. Michael’s Fletcher is one of 10 football finalists for the NAPA Auto Parts Blue Collar scholarship award.

The Blue Collar banquet is set for 6 p.m. March 11 at City Park in New Orleans. Former Baker, LSU and New Orleans Saints player Hokie Gajan is among the presenters.

Fletcher earned All-Metro and Class 4A all-state honors as a linebacker/kicker/fullback for the Warriors.

All-district, all-state

Baton Rouge area schools are asked to submit their all-district soccer and basketball teams to The Advocate. Soccer teams are past due. The deadline for basketball is March 2.

Boys and girls basketball coaches are asked to submit their all-state nominations by using the same email/fax procedure.

Prep notables

Former Dutchtown standout Tyler Hughes of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette set a Sun Belt Conference indoor track record while winning the 60-meter hurdles in 8.07 seconds.

  • Catholic High’s Ross Massey tossed a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts in the Bears’ 3-0 season-opening victory over Slidell. It was the first complete-game no-hitter in decades for the Bears.
  • Dutchtown defensive lineman Michael Tadda signed with Millsaps. Tadda is the Griffins’ 48th signee since 2002.
