Around the Track

Turf racing on Monday’s card might be in jeopardy as rain is forecast, but we’ve had a good run on the turf and rain could actually be needed to keep the course in prime shape. Keep an eye on the “off turf” selections. Looking ahead to the weekend a full field of 13 will contest the Veterans Ford Risen Star Stakes on Saturday. The race has attracted top horses and top jockeys, including Eclipse Award winning jockey for 2015 Javier Castellano, who will ride Uncle Walter for Mike Maker. Other jockeys shipping in are Julien Leperoux, Joe Bravo, Junior Alvarado, Edwin Maldanado and John Velasquez.

Best Bet

Our best bet today will be in Race 4 — No. 5 Mon Petit Pote. Horse has poor record at the track, but had improved in last three and gets Eramia today. Good luck and may they all come home safely.
