The New Orleans Pelicans tried to address their injured frontcourt and instead found more health problems.

Power forward Greg Smith, who agreed to terms with the Pelicans earlier Friday, failed his physical and won’t be joining the team, league sources told The Advocate.

Injuries to centers Omer Asik (three weeks, calf strain) and Alexis Ajinca (four to six weeks, hamstring strain) left a thin frontcourt for the rest of the preseason, prompting the Pelicans to look at Smith.

And while the Pelicans have glut of nonguaranteed players hoping to nab one of the final two spots available on the 15-man roster, Jeff Adrien is the only one in the frontcourt.

Smith was not with the team in Jacksonville, Florida, for its 103-93 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night. He was expected to join the Pelicans in New Orleans on Saturday, but instead General Manager Dell Demps will be forced to look for other options.
