What’s the greatest team that can be assembled from the New Orleans Hornets and Pelicans?
That’s the question the NBA 2K video game franchise set out to answer this offseason. The answer came back Thursday afternoon, when the developers released rosters for each team in the NBA.
The best starting five in New Orleans franchise history features guards Chris Paul and Baron Davis alongside forwards Jamal Mashburn, Anthony Davis and David West. Among the starters, only Davis has worn a Pelicans uniform; the franchise rebranded in 2013-14.
The rest of the roster is largely built of players who had just a handful of quality seasons for the team, including current center DeMarcus Cousins, who has played in just 17 games with New Orleans to date.
Guards David Wesley, Eric Gordon, Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans and J.R. Smith got the nod in the backcourt. They’re joined by forwards Ryan Anderson, Peja Stojakovic, Trevor Ariza and center Tyson Chandler.
The all-time team is available for game play against other groupings of all-time great teams.
The NBA2K team also re-created the best season in New Orleans’ franchise history, making the 2007-08 Hornets available in “classic mode.” That team, which won the franchise’s only division title, was the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and lost in the second round of the playoffs.
Four of the 2007-08 team’s starters are on the all-time team: Paul, West, Stojakovic, Chandler.
NBA 2K18 will be released Sept. 19 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch and PC.
