One center returned for the Pelicans on Saturday night. Now another is sidelined.
Kendrick Perkins, who started at center for the Pels in each of their first three games, is out indefinitely with a right pectoral injury, the team announced on Sunday. Perkins was injured in the first quarter of Saturday's 134-120 loss to the Golden State Warriors and did not return.
Omer Asik, the Pelicans' projected starting center, missed New Orleans' first two games with a right calf strain but returned on Saturday. He played 10 scoreless minutes and had one rebound.
Perkins, a veteran signed in the offseason primarily for his leadership, is averaging 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
The Pelicans (0-3) return to action on Tuesday, when they host the Orlando Magic at Smoothie King Center at 7 p.m.
