The New Orleans Pelicans next coach probably won't be University of Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari.

The Sporting News is reporting that Calipari and the university are working on a contract extension that will pay $8 million through the 2021-22 season.

Calipari's name has come up as a potential Pelicans coaching candidate. Besides his success at Kentucky, Calipari has ties to Anthony Davis and Tyreke Evans. Calipari coached Davis at Kentucky and Evans at Memphis.

The report didn't mention details about Calipari's buyout. According a report last summer, Calipari didn't have a buyout in his contract.
