Former San Jose State cornerback Jimmy Pruitt signed with the Saints after trying out during the team’s rookie minicamp, according to the firm that represents him, the International Sports Agency.

Pruitt, a 6-foot, 198-pound defensive back who started all four years for the Spartans, can play both safety and cornerback.

In three seasons at corner, Pruitt picked off four passes, and he started as a sophomore at safety.

At the NFL scouting combine, Pruitt ran the 40-yard dash in 4.73 seconds and put up 19 reps on the bench press.

By signing Pruitt, the Saints have now added four tryout players from the minicamp, meaning New Orleans has to release at least three — in addition to veteran wide receiver Shane Wynn — to get to the NFL’s 90-man roster limit.
