On the bubble: Austin Johnson

Position: Fullback

Years in the NFL: 1

Acquired: Free agency (2012)

College: Tennessee

Career highlights: Johnson spent the 2013 season on and off the Saints practice squad, working at fullback. After spending his first two seasons in college at fullback, he moved to linebacker, racking up 126 total tackles and five interceptions.

Strengths: He has consistently caught passes out of the backfield.

Must improve on: He’s an adequate lead run blocker, but improvement would boost his roster hopes.

Projection: He’s still a long shot. He had an opportunity with Erik Lorig injured, but the Saints then signed free agent Greg Jones.

Say what?

“It felt good to be wanted. It felt good to know where your future is going to be. For someone like me, that means a lot.”

— Saints TE Jimmy Graham, on recently getting a four-year, $40 million extension

“I get it. It’s about you. Go ahead.”

— Saints DE Cameron Jordan, light-heartedly teasing a reporter who interrupted an answer at the podium

Roster spotlight: Tight ends

On solid ground: Jimmy Graham, Benjamin Watson

Work to do: Josh Hill

Plenty to prove: Nic Jacobs, Je’Ron Hamm, Richard Quinn

Camp developments: Focusing on those with plenty to prove, Jacobs and Hamm (injured) have had their moments catching passes in traffic, but there haven’t been many. Quinn’s a late addition.
