Sunday’s season finale at Atlanta could be the last call for the Saints offense’s ‘core four’ of Drew Brees, Marques Colston, Jahri Evans and Zach Strief _lowres

PHOENIX — Many expected Jahri Evans to either be released or traded this offseason. That isn’t happening.

While the Saints entertained trade offers for both Ben Grubbs and Evans, the team ultimately decided to let Grubbs go to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.

That means Evans isn’t going anywhere. Coach Sean Payton said that Evans could still have his cap hit lowered, which comes in at $11 million, but he plans to have him in the starting lineup next season.

“There was some trade talk with both those players, there was some interest by other teams with respect to a possible trade,” Payton said.

He added: “Jahri will play for us at right guard. I think that the structure of his contract with regards to this upcoming season, I don’t know if that’s resolved in how its going to play out.”
