Willie Snead’s odds of making the roster have improved throughout the course of training camp.

The wide receiver has been on of the more productive and consistent performers during camp, and he capped things off by catching at least four passes during Friday’s practice at Yulman Stadium.

After the session concluded, coach Sean Payton praised Snead for his work during camp and gave an assessment of where the receiver stands.

“He’s got some real good football instincts,” Payton said. “He’s right there in the thick of it’s competing for playing time, competing for a roster spot. I think he does a lot of things well. He’s smart.”

Snead’s odds of making the 53-man roster will greatly improve if the Saints decide to carry six wide receivers.

It seems safe to assume Brandin Cooks, Marques Colston, and Brandon Coleman will claim the top three spots. Josh Morgan, Joe Morgan, Nick Toon and Snead appear to be fighting for the last two or three spots.

Toon is currently out of action with an ankle injury.

Snead also contributes on special teams, which could help his cause.
