Key Saints players Drew Brees, Jairus Byrd, Dannell Ellerbe return to practice Wednesday _lowres

Advocate file photo by MATTHEW HINTON -- In his 10th year with the Saints, reports continue that other NFL teams are interested in coach Sean Payton.

Drew Brees was at Wednesday’s practice.

How much he participated — if at all — remains to be seen. His official status will be listed on this afternoon’s injury report.

The Saints quarterback stretched and was on the field during the open portion of practice, which typically includes stretching and individual drills.

Brees bruised his rotator cuff Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being sacked during the second quarter. He played the rest of the game.

Free safety Jairus Byrd was also back at practice.

Byrd, who hasn’t practiced since the final day of the Saints’ mandatory minicamp as he comes back from a knee injury, participated in the portion of practice open to the media on Wednesday.

Veteran linebacker Dannell Ellerbe also participated in the portion of practice open to the media.
