Darren Sproles had 131 total yards and the New Orleans Saints jumped to a 14-point lead, then held off the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-10 at Jacksonville, Fla. Sunday.
Drew Brees passed for 354 yards and a touchdown for the Saints (3-1), who have won three straight since an opening loss to Green Bay.
But New Orleans allowed Jacksonville (1-3) to hang around. Despite piling up 503 offensive yards, New Orleans settled for three John Kasay field goals in five attempts and also had two Brees interceptions in Jaguars territory.
Jacksonville could not take advantage. Rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert threw 10 straight incomplete passes at one point and finished just 16-for-42 for 196 yards with a touchdown and interception.
While Jacksonville struggled offensively behind its young quarterback, New Orleans scored touchdowns on its first two possessions for a 14-0 lead on a 1-yard run by fullback Jed Collins, his first NFL touchdown, and a 1-yard Brees-to-Jimmy Graham touchdown pass.
On both drives, Brees hit Sproles for long passes to set up the score, a 19-yarder on the first drive and 39 yards on the second drive. Sproles rushed for a team-high 75 yards on seven carries, including a 34-yard run, and he caught five passes for 56 yards.
Brees completed 31 of 44 passes, including 10 completions for 132 yards to Graham.
