The Saints are bringing back a familiar face.
After working out for New Orleans earlier Thursday, linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar has agreed to return to the Saints, according to a source.
Dunbar was signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2008 and remained with the team through 2011. He hooked on with St. Louis for the 2012 season and bounced on and off the Rams’ roster until being released earlier this week.
Dunbar has not been active for any games this season. He finished with 36 tackles last season.
In St. Louis, Dunbar played both strongside and weakside linebacker, which gives him a little bit of versatility.
If the Saints believe he can still play on the weakside, he could provide some insurance for Dannell Ellerbe (hip) and David Hawthorne, who are both fighting injuries and appear to be questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.
The corresponding move is not yet known.
New Orleans also worked out defensive back Brandon Dixon, the twin brother of cornerback Brian Dixon, on Thursday.
He was drafted by the New York Jets in the sixth round last year and then signed to Tampa Bay’s practice squad.
Brandon Dixon spent time this season on the Seattle Seahawks’ and New England Patriots’ practice squads.
