The New Orleans Saints can breathe easy.
“Hard Knocks,” HBO’s popular series that goes behind the scenes at an NFL training camp every year, will show the Los Angeles Rams this August.
New Orleans was eligible to be selected as a team that had the same head coach returning and had missed the playoffs the last two years.
“We are thrilled that the 11th edition of HARD KNOCKS will spotlight a team from the NFC West Division for the first time,” Peter Nelson, executive vice president, HBO Sports, said in a statement released by the Rams. “It’s exciting to chronicle a franchise with so many compelling storylines, highlighted by the team’s return to the Los Angeles market and the enormously warm reception the Rams are experiencing. The series has become a summertime destination for TV viewers, and we can’t wait for the premiere on August 9.”
The Saints would have been a reluctant participant at best. New Orleans head coach Sean Payton has said he’ll never be videotaped releasing a player, and general manager Mickey Loomis has expressed similar reservations.
“There’s nothing to prepare for,” Payton said at the owner’s meetings in Boca Raton, Fla. Wednesday. “We really haven’t discussed it lately.”
