Scouting report

The Falcons — who beat the Saints in Week 1 — are 4-0 against the division they and New Orleans belong to: the NFC South. They are 1-9 against everyone else; and, making matters worse for them, they were the one team in the NFL whose defense was worse than the Saints heading into Monday night. This is a must-win game for the Saints: If they lose to their archrivals and Carolina beats Cleveland on Sunday, the Saints would be eliminated from playoff contention, because the winner of Carolina and Atlanta on Dec. 28 would win the division title. Even a tie between Carolina and Atlanta on Dec. 27 after a Saints loss to the Falcons on Sunday would leave New Orleans on the outside looking in.
