New York Times writer Ken Belson recently spent several days with New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson and told WWL Radio the 87-year-old owner appeared sharpand comfortable in his element during his visit.

"When he is in his element, which it so say in the business milieu... he is very comfortable," Belson said in the interview, though he noted Benson is aging and can't recall every name and number he likely once could.

The dispute over future ownership of the Saints and Pelicans has dominated New Orleans headlines since January, when Tom Benson announced his wife would inherit the two teams.

Benson's granddaugher, Rita LeBlanc, and other family members have alleged in a lawsuit that Benson's mental capacity is inadequate to manage his own business assets.

"I didn't see that," Belson told WWL Radio when asked about Benson's alleged problems with decision making.
