WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. — The Saints released tight end Alex Smith on Sunday, a source confirmed.

The veteran tight end was signed earlier this month after rookie tight end Jack Tabb suffered a torn ACL. He played three snaps during Thursday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens and caught one pass for no yards.

The Saints now have Ben Watson, Josh Hill and Orson Charles remaining at tight end.

WWL’s Kristian Garic first reported Smith’s release.

The Advocate’s Joel A. Erickson contributed to this report.
