The grand opening of the new LSU Soccer Stadium this weekend highlights the festivities at the 2011 LSU Invitational this weekend.
Friday’s doubleheader begins at 5 p.m. with No. 20 Illinois and No. 13 Pepperdine before the Tigers take on Oregon at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday has Illinois and Oregon scheduled for 10:30 a.m. followed by LSU and Pepperdine that kicks off at 1:07 p.m. on Cox Sports Television (Cable ch. 37).

WRAPS UP NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE AT WKU TOURNAMENT: The LSU volleyball team ends its non-conference schedule at the WKU Tournament over the weekend.
The Tigers square off against Wake Forest (10 a.m.) and Xavier (4:30 p.m.) on Friday followed by a match against tournament host Western Kentucky at 2 p.m. Saturday.
LSU (6-1), which is receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25, comes off an undefeated road trip with victories over Arkansas-Little Rock, Grambling and New Mexico State at the Hotel Encanto Classic last weekend.
“I think we started off very, very well on the road,” coach Fran Flory said. “With a young group, we really didn’t know what to expect as coaches.
“All three of these teams we play this weekend are teams that I expect to have a chance to make the NCAA’s, that’s why we chose this tournament. It could be the defining factor for what we’re able to create later in the season in terms of postseason opportunities.”
Meghan Mannari has anchored the back row and averages 4.05 digs per set to rank eighth in the Southeastern Conference.
LSU GOLFERS TEE OFF AT CARPET CAPITAL CLASSIC IN SEASON OPENER: A new generation of Tigers golfers open the 2011-12 season this weekend as No. 17-ranked LSU competes at the 23rd annual Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic.
The Tigers are coming off a strong season, when three-time All-American John Peterson was crowned national champion in leading LSU to its second-straight NCAA Championships appearance in 2010-11.
The Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic, to be held at Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga., will host to a 12-team field that features six teams that are ranked in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Preseason Top 25. Six teams competed in the 30-team field at the 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships.
The course will play to a par 72 and 7,012 yards for the three-day, 54-hole championship with tee times in Friday’s first round set to begin at 8 a.m. The tournament continues with the second round Saturday followed by the third and final round on Sunday to decide this year’s championship.
LADY TIGERS ADD THREE OPPONENTS, FINALIZE 2011-12 SCHEDULE: The LSU women’s basketball team has added three non-conference opponents to its 2011-12 schedule, coach Nikki Caldwell announced Thursday.
The Lady Tigers will take on Wichita State in the season-opener Nov. 14 in Wichita, Kan. LSU was previously scheduled to take on Central Michigan but the Chippewas had to cancel the contest because it put them over the NCAA regulated allotment of games.
LSU has added a home contest against Arkansas-Pine Bluff to be played Nov. 21, a day before the Lady Tigers hosting Big 10 foe Northwestern.
The Lady Tigers will travel to East Tennessee State to take on the Bucs in Johnson City, Tenn., on Jan. 24.
