New Orleans Pelicans and Saints owner Tom Benson was interviewed at halftime of Wednesday’s Pelicans-Nuggets game at the Smoothie King Center, saying he’s “doing fine.”
The 87-year-old owner, of course, is currently embroiled in a legal entanglement within his own family, being sued by his daughter and grandchildren for trying to transfer ownership to wife Gayle Benson upon his death.
Benson, meanwhile, has asked for the court to dismiss the case. Asked by Pelicans sideline reporter Jennifer Hale how he’s feeling, Benson responded quickly.
“People think there’s something wrong with me,” Benson said. “I’ve been in the office every day putting in a full day of work and I’m doing fine.”
Benson took three questons from Hale. He predicted the Pelicans would win Wednesday night’s game (they trailed 49-39 at the time of the interview).
“It’s been an exciting season and I’m so proud of the young men,” Benson said. “We are going to win this one tonight.”
Asked if he’d be attending the Super Bowl on Sunday in Glendale, Arizona, he said he wouldn’t because the Saints are not participating.
“I don’t like to go to the game unless we are in it,” Benson said.
