On The Bubble

Derrick Strozier

Position: Running back

Years in the NFL: Rookie

Acquired: Singed as an undrafted free agent

College: Tulane

Career highlights: A converted cornerback, Strozier recorded four career crries for 12 yards while at Tulane. He also had 11 catches for 60 yards.

Strengths: Strozier has flashed several times in practices due to his quickness, breaking off a few big runs. He has also decent hands and can catch passes out of the backfield.

Must improve on: Strozier is a raw running back and might be a project. He will need to find a way to contribute on special teams if he if hopes to make the team. It will be an uphill battle.

Projection: The Saints appear well set at running back. Strozier, who has six carries for 16 yards this preseason, will need to make a major impact in the final two games if he hopes to make the roster.

Spotlight on ... running backs

  • On solid ground: Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson, Pierre Thomas,
  • Work to do: Travaris Cadet
  • Plenty to prove: Derrick Strozier,
  • Camp developments: Thomas expects his role to change this year after leading the team in carries last season.

Say what?

“Well I can’t say I grow a real good one. It was until I play, I was just going to grow it out. It’s getting shaved off pretty soon.”

Saints QB Drew Brees on the goatee he grew while sidelined with a left oblique strain.

“He’s the best of the best; his quickness, ability to play low and bend the edge. He’s kind of the same skill set as Junior Galette, being able to block and go up against Junior is a good look for Robert Mathis.”

Saints OL Terron Armstead on the Colts’ Robert Mathis. The Saints and Colts play Saturday night in Indianapolis.

Did not participate: FB Erik Lorig, WR Andy Tanner, LB Khairi Fortt, CB Rod Sweeting, LB Victor Butler, S Marcus Ball, T Ty Nsekhe and S Ty Zimmerman.
