The New Orleans Saints' primary rival, the Atlanta Falcons, will have a new head coach for the 2015 season.

The Falcons announced Monday morning that coach Mike Smith has been fired.

A week after beating the Saints in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Falcons (6-10) and Smith lost a win-and-get-in game at home to the Carolina Panthers, 34-3.

In seven seasons as Atlanta's coach, Smith went 66-46. He was 5-9 against New Orleans (three wins at home; two on the road), including a sweep of the 2014 series.
