Former Miami Dolphins punter Brandon Fields is one of the punters working out for the New Orleans Saints today, according to his agent.
Fields, 31, is a veteran of eight seasons in Miami who earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2013. In those eight years, Fields has averaged 46.8 yards per punt and a 38.6 net average, but he was beaten out in training camp by rookie punter Matt Darr.
New Orleans planned to bring in four punters to work out on Tuesday, according to to Fox Sports 1, after Saints punter Thomas Morstead suffered a strained quad against the Cowboys on Sunday night.
The Saints’ decision to sign Fields indicates that Morstead’s injury could cause the veteran to miss some time.
Kicker Zach Hocker handled a punt in the fourth quarter after Morstead was injured on Sunday.
