The Saints gave little indication on what it intends to do with Delvin Breaux this week.

The cornerback is eligible to return from injured reserve this week and play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the coaching staff offered up few hints on what it plans to do with Breaux.

“He looked good. Listen, he got a lot of good work in this week, so we’ll see where he’s at,” coach Sean Payton said.

Payton noted that the team has until next week to make a decision on whether to active Breaux or not, when asked if that meant the cornerback would not play this week, he replied by saying, “I didn’t say a word about this week.”

Teams have 21 days to activate players from injured reserve once they return to practice. Breaux began practicing on Oct. 20.

Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen agreed that Breaux has looked good in practices, and noted that he’s working to get back in shape. Allen also said that the team will be smart with whatever decision it makes.

“We certainly don’t want to do anything that disrupts what we’ve been able to do over the last five weeks of the season,” Allen said. “We feel comfortable with where we’re at, and yet the same time you can never have enough good players.”
