Newly-signed defensive end Cameron Jordan and backup quarterback Ryan Griffin were both excused from Wednesday’s practice, Sean Payton said.
New Orleans has had several players excused for various reasons throughout the organized team activities this summer. Center Max Unger missed part of the first week for the birth of his first child, and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe missed the second week for undisclosed reasons.
“We’ve had a handful of guys like that throughout this that on any given day — we had a birth, one player was leaving — that’s just part of the deal,” Payton said.
New Orleans also had several players who didn’t practice, but were in attendance, led by wide receiver Marques Colston, who also did not practice last week.
Davis Tull, Jamarca Sanford, Damian Swann, Lawrence Virgil,Tavaris Barnes and Glenn Foster were all at practice, working on the side.
