Notes and observations from Tuesday’s practice:

BREAUX SAYS NO: I don’t typically put much stock in one-on-one passing drills between receivers and cornerbacks. By design, the drill favors the wide receivers. It didn’t during Tuesday’s practice. Cornerback Delvin Breaux was shutting guys down and won all three of his reps. It was an impressive performance. We still need to see more of him in actual games, but it’s getting to the point where it would be a surprise if he struggles.

WARREN UP: Second-year safety Pierre Warren spent most of camp playing with the third-string defense. On Tuesday, after recording an interception and breaking up a pass against the Patriots, he received first-team reps with the defense. Perhaps the coaching staff just wanted to get a better look at him. It would also be a sign that he’s moving back up the depth chart.

BREES PICKED: I haven’t charted seven-on-sevens during camp, so the validity of the following statement is in question, but I believe Drew Brees threw his first interception of training camp. The pick came after he threw a ball that bounced off tight end Ben Watson’s chest and into the arms of cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste. Brees still has not thrown a pick in team drills.

KICKER BATTLE: Zach Hocker connected on kicks from 34, 42, 45 and 34 yards. He missed from 39. Dustin Hopkins made kicks from 34, 29, 42, and 34 yards. He missed from 45. This battle looked over a few weeks ago. Now it’s back on.

WILSON UP: Kyle Wilson is going to make this a race. The cornerback showed up with another decent practice, breaking up a pass intended for Willie Snead. He’s extremely physical. If P.J. Williams’ health situation does not improve, there could a way onto the roster for the former New York Jet.
