The Saints are already tinkering with their roster.

After claiming two players on waivers earlier Sunday, the team let go of safety Kenny Phillips, according to a source.

Phillips had been out of football since 2012 due to knee injuries. He initially survived the first two cuts from 90 to 75 players and then 75 to 53.

New Orleans has to make another roster move to get down to 53 players. Fox Sports first reported Phillips’ release.

New Orleans claimed linebacker Michael Mauti, who was previously with the Minnesota Vikings, and defensive end Obum Gwacham, who was with the Seahawks.

The Saints currently have Jairus Byrd and Rafael Bush at free safety. They have Kenny Vaccaro and Jamarca Sanford at strong safety.

Byrd spent training camp on the physically unable to perform list but was added to the active roster on Saturday.
