A closer look at Brandon Deaderick

Position: Nose tackle

Years in the NFL: 5

Acquired: 2014 (FA-Jacksonville)

College: Alabama

Career highlights: In 2010, Deaderick helped the Crimson Tide win a BCS Championship. Playing for the New England Patriots, he also sacked New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning in the Super Bowl at the end of the 2011 season.

Strengths: He’s serviceable playing nose tackle, defensive tackle and defensive end. Smart and tough.

Must improve on: Knowledge of Saints defense; winning 1-on-1 battles.

Projection: With John Jenkins out for start of camp, he’s had lots of reps with the second string, positioning him to contend for a depth spot.
