The New Orleans Saints signed defensive tackle Ashaad Mabry to their 10-man practice squad on Monday after he cleared waivers, a source told The Advocate.
Other NFL teams offered Mabry a chance to join their practice squads, according to the source, but he decided to stay with the Saints.
Mabry, a defensive tackle from UTSA with an inspiring personal story, made 14 tackles in the Saints’ four preseason games, and he initially landed on the team’s 53-man roster, along with three other undrafted defensive linemen.
The rookie was then released when the Saints were awarded two players off of waivers on Sunday.
By adding Mabry to the practice squad, the Saints finished off their 10-man group, which can be claimed at any time by another team if the team then adds the player to the 53-man roster.
