WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va — Notes from Thursday’s training camp practice.

(This post is being updated with more details. Check back)

Differences on defense: It appears the Saints are going to lean on Cam Jordan to replace the departed Junior Galette. Jordan spent the majority of the time lined up as a 7-technique defensive end, the role Galette filled last season. This move should free Jordan up to pin his ears back and get after the quarterback. On the opposite side of the line, Akiem Hicks lined up as a 6-technique defensive end. John Jenkins and Kevin Williams received most of the snaps at defensive tackle.

On an island: The defense operated almost exclusively out of single-high safety looks, with Rafael Bush serving as the deep man. This allowed Kenny Vaccaro to play in the box. He matched up with slot receivers at time when the team was in base defense. Early indications is the Saints are going to play more press coverage.

Rookie watch: Undrafted defensive lineman Bobby Richardson caught the eye a few times. He received a few snaps with the first-team defense and recorded a sack. Hau’oli Kikaha and Stephone Anthony received some snaps with the second-team defense. They also go some work with the field with the third- and fourth-team defense during the early portion of practice.

Shining: Keenan Lewis shined throughout practice. He snatched a pass from Brandin Cooks on a go route and broke up two other passes.

Of note: Stanely Jean-Baptiste and Delvin Breaux are working with the second team. Safeties Pierre Warren and Kenny Phillips switched between the second- and third-team defenses. Cornerback Kyle Wilson was mostly with the third team.

Special teams report: Brandon Browner blocked a field goal by Zach Hocker. Hocker missed from 35 yards and connected from 37. He was given another attempt from 33 yards and nailed it. Dustin Hopkins connected from 33, 35 and 37 yards.
