The Saints have retained one of their tight ends.

The team agreed to terms on a three-year deal with Michael Hoomanawanui on Tuesday, according to Fox Sports, which will prevent him from reaching the open market.

Tight ends Ben Watson and Josh Hill can reach the open market on Wednesday if they are not re-signed.

New Orleans acquired Hoomanawanui in a trade that sent defensive lineman Akiem Hicks to the New England Patriots last September.

Over 12 games, he caught 11 passes for 76 yards with three touchdowns. However, he served in a multitude of capacities, often times lining up in the backfield like a fullback and staying back to help protect Drew Brees on third downs.

His presence also allowed the Saints to operate out of three-tight end sets, which added a layer of deception to the offense.
