A closer look at ... Brandon Coleman

Position: Wide receiver

Years in the NFL: Undrafted Rookie

College: Rutgers

Career highlights: The imposing 6-foot-6, 225-pound wideout tied a school record with 20 career touchdown receptions. Half of those came in his sophomore year.

Strengths: His size can’t be taught, and he put it on display Friday when he elevated over cornerback Corey White and snatched a jump ball out of the air.

Weaknesses: He showed somewhat questionable hands during offseason workouts, dropping numerous passes while working with the backups.

Projection: Coleman looks the part, but the Saints are very deep at receiver, and he’ll have to beat some long odds to make the roster.

Say what?

“In my mind, I’m not in my mid-30s. I’m 25 years old.”

— Saints quarterback Drew Brees on how long he can play in the NFL after turning 35 in January.

“I’m an All-Pro tight end, and I plan to stay that way.”

— Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, who practiced with the Saints for the first time Friday after negotiating a four-year, $40 million contract extension all offseason.

Spotlight on ... special teams

On solid ground: Thomas Morstead (P), Justin Drescher (LS)

Work to do: Shayne Graham (K), Brandin Cooks (PR), Joseph Morgan (PR)

Plenty to prove: Derek Dimke (K)

Camp developments: It’s too soon to handicap any of the positional battles, but it appears that Dimke is going to do his best to ensure that he is more than just camp leg. He hit all three of his field goals during Friday’s practice. Cooks and Morgan were given the first opportunity to replace Darren Sproles as the punt returner. Both did well fielding punts Friday.

Injury report

Physically unable to perform: S Jairus Byrd (back), NT John Jenkins (reportedly, pec), T Tavon Rooks (back)
