The New Orleans Saints have reportedly hired former Giants defensive backs coach Peter Giunta as senior defensive assistant, according to Pro Football Talk.

Giunta previously coached the Giants defensive backs for nine seasons before being let go in 2014. At one point, New York blocked Giunta from being interviewed by other teams for jobs.

Before his stint in New York, Giunta coached defensive backs in Kansas City from 2001-2005, and he served as the St. Louis Rams’ coordinator from 1998-2000.

New Orleans opened last season with two coaches in charge of the secondary — Dennis Allen and Wesley McGriff. With Allen likely taking over as the defensive coordinator and McGriff heading to Auburn, the Saints have hired cornerbacks coach Aaron Glenn and now Giunta, possibly to keep the same dynamic.
