Drew Brees’ throwing session Tuesday showed enough good signs that the Saints quarterback plans to take throwing reps Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Ed Werder.

Brees, who suffered a bruised rotator cuff against Tampa Bay, was listed as limited in Saints’ practices last week, but he did not throw in a practice setting.

Battling through the injury in an effort to play, Brees threw last Friday, but he said he felt he didn’t have the velocity to play against Carolina.

Brees then took the weekend off and flew to Birmingham, Alabama, for another consultation with Dr. James Andrews before trying to throw again Tuesday.

If Brees begins throwing in practice Wednesday, his chances of playing against Dallas rise. Brees has repeatedly said the issue with the bruised rotator cuff has little to do with pain tolerance; he just needs to get the strength to throw the ball downfield.

During the Tampa Bay game, the injury affected his deep throws, particularly an interception on an underthrown ball to an open Brandin Cooks.
