Tired of working for a trade, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released quarterback Josh Freeman, according to numerous media reports on Thursday.

The Bucs (0-4) benched Freeman after Week 3 and made rookie Mike Glennon their starter. Freeman completed 58.2 percent of his passes for 80 touchdowns, 66 interceptions in his 60 games with the Bucs, who drafted him in the first round of the 2009 draft.

The Bucs’ record since then was 24-36. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2007.

Glennon, out of North Carolina State, was Tampa Bay’s third-round pick in this year’s draft. He was 33-of-70 for 397 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in the preseason.

The New Orleans Saints host Tampa Bay on Dec. 29. The Saints already defeated the Bucs 16-14 in Week 2 at Tampa Bay.
