WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. — The New Orleans Saints finished off a flurry of moves over the weekend by signing four players and cutting ties with four others, according to ESPN.com.
In addition to previously reported cuts in long snapper Chris Highland and tight end Alex Smith, the Saints cut wide receiverKyle Prater and defensive tackle Lawrence Virgil, who was waived with an injury designation. Virgil, a nose tackle, played in one game for the Saints, but he suffered an injury to his left lower leg against the Ravens in the preseason opener.
In their places, the Saints signed linebacker Chris Young and tight end Michael Egnew to go along with previously reported signings of linebacker Justin Anderson and defensive tackle Austin Brown.
Egnew, a former third round pick of the Miami Dolphins, caught seven passes in two years in Miami, but he was released at the end of training camp last year and spent a month on the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars before getting cut last September.
