The Saints signed Nick Fairley to a three-year deal worth but he won’t ever see the second season.
The defensive tackle’s $4.69 million deal will void if he’s on the team on the 15th day prior to the 2017 league year, according to a source. So, in essence, there are two shell years on the deal that exist to help the Saints spread out his $2.235 million signing bonus.
So, in essence, Fairley signed a one-year deal worth $3 million. But for New Orleans, he will only count $1.51 million against the cap in 2016.
Fairley will receive a $765,000 base salary and can earn up to $1.75 million in incentives based on playing time and sacks.
