The New Orleans Saints are releasing veteran punter Brandon Fields, according to a league source.

Fields, who was signed to fill in for Thomas Morstead as the Saints’ stalwart recovered from a strained quadricep suffered against Dallas, punted in two games for New Orleans.

With Fields off the roster, all signs point to Morstead returning against Indianapolis, a key development for both the punting and kicking game.

New Saints kicker Kai Forbath struggled on kickoffs during his time in Washington. The return of Morstead, in part, allowed New Orleans to bring in Forbath and release first-year kicker Zach Hocker on Monday.

Fields averaged 41.2 yards per punt on 10 offerings in his two games with the Saints, filling in nicely although he had two shanked punts against Philadelphia.
